PROGRAM GUIDE

Current Programs

Outdoor Wellness Retreats

Our multi-day outdoor retreats bring veterans together in a structured, supportive, and low-pressure environment. Participants have opportunities to explore the outdoors, try new activities, spend time with other veterans, and temporarily disconnect from daily stressors.

Depending on the location and event, activities may include:

  • Camping and outdoor living;
  • Hiking and nature exploration;
  • Kayaking or other adaptive outdoor recreation;
  • Morning stretching and mindfulness;
  • Quiet reflection;
  • Team-building activities;
  • Camp-style meals;
  • Veteran-led discussions and story circles;
  • Campfire gatherings; and
  • Recreational and wellness-focused activities.

Activities are adapted whenever reasonably possible to support veterans with different experience levels and physical abilities. Each event listing identifies the planned activities, location, physical requirements, accommodations, items participants should bring, and any costs or deposits.

Every retreat also includes advance logistical information, a participant readiness and safety review, a code of conduct, and opportunities to form lasting peer connections.

Peer Connection and Alumni Service

For many veterans, leaving military service also means losing the close relationships, teamwork, and shared purpose that were once part of everyday life. Our programs create opportunities for veterans to rebuild those connections through shared experiences.

Our commitment does not end when a retreat concludes. Depending on available resources, former participants may be invited to:

  • Participate in follow-up conversations or virtual gatherings;
  • Stay connected with other retreat participants;
  • Volunteer at future events;
  • Mentor or welcome new participants;
  • Support community outreach;
  • Assist with conservation or service projects; and
  • Help strengthen the Warriors in the Wild veteran community.

Veterans serving in official volunteer or leadership roles must complete applicable screening, orientation, and role-specific training.

Veteran Resource Navigation

Veterans often know that assistance exists but may not know where to begin or which organization to contact. Warriors in the Wild helps participants identify appropriate public, nonprofit, and community resources.

Depending on the veteran’s needs and the availability of local partners, resource information may include:

  • VA programs and benefits;
  • Mental-health and wellness services;
  • Employment and education assistance;
  • Housing and financial resources;
  • Veteran service organizations;
  • Peer-support programs;
  • Disability and adaptive-recreation resources; and
  • Local community services.

Warriors in the Wild does not determine eligibility for government benefits. We provide practical information, peer support, and connections to organizations qualified to address the veteran’s specific needs.

What Participants Can Expect*

Although every event is different, Warriors in the Wild programs generally include:

  • A veteran-centered environment;
  • Clear schedules and logistical information;
  • Participant eligibility and safety screening;
  • Outdoor and wellness-focused activities;
  • Shared meals and group experiences;
  • Opportunities for rest and personal reflection;
  • Time to connect with other veterans;
  • Information about helpful veteran resources; and
  • Opportunities for continued involvement after the event.

*Participation in specific activities may depend on the event location, weather, physical requirements, available equipment, and the participant’s ability to take part safely.
